About The Royal Liver Building
The Royal Liver Building was the original headquarters for the Royal Liver Assurance Group. They assist d families that had lost a wage earning relative.
Its construction finished in 1911 and cost £8000,000 to build.
It was considered to be the first skyscraper in Britain!
Situated on Liverpool’s Waterfront, the Liver Building makes up the Three Graces, which also involves the Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building.
On top of the Liver Building sits two 18 feet Liver Birds, a male and female pair, one which looks over Liverpool to protect the people, and one which looks out to sea to protect the seamen, legend has it.
Another local myth is that the Liver Birds are chained to the Liver Building to stop them flying away, as it is believed that if they did, the banks of the Mersey would burst and Liverpool would flood.
