About The Iron Men
Crosby Beach in Merseyside is home to the Iron Men sculptures.
The Iron Men and modelled on the artist, Sir Antony Gormley’s own body.
The sculptures appeared at European exhibitions before being permanently placed at Crosby Beach.
Each sculpture weighs around 650kg and is 189cm tall.
100 were cast in two locations, West Yorkshire and West Bromwich.
The future of the Iron Men was threatened a few years ago, with some having concerns for safety, and others finding offence in the sculptures.
However, in 2007, Sefton Council confirmed that the Iron Men would stay
Crosby Beach wouldn’t be the same without them!
